North American National Park #16: Everglades National Park, Florida

There isn’t anything quite like the Everglades.

For starters, it is immediately next to a very large urban area. If you look at the maps, there is a literally line where on one side there are houses and cities and on the other is the Everglades. There is no buffer zone.

Also, many people think it is a swamp, but in reality it is a very slow moving river.

Because of its location to metro Miami, it is one of the most endangered parks in the US. On the plus side, it is also one of the most accessible parks to visit.

If you visit the Everglades, I’d recommend a full day in the park and make sure to take a fan boat trip, as this is one of the few places where you can ride in one.
