More Dubai: Keep your camera clean

I was all set to leave Dubai. Last night I sat down and went through all my photos from Sukhothai and Ayutthaya. I noticed something horrible that I hadn’t seen when I was shooting in the LCD of my camera. A giant hair like thing on every single image. Somehow, something had gotten on the sensor of my camera.

In most shots, I can correct it easily enough in Photoshop, so it wasn’t that big of a deal. I wanted to see just how bad it was, so I took my camera outside this morning and took a photo of the gray sky at f/22. (At f/22, the apature or hole in the camera is really small and dust and everything on the sensor is very noticeable.)

I was sick to my stomach.

My camera is really unusable in its current condition. I need to get it cleaned professionally, and I need it done ASAP. I last had it done in Melbourne almost a year ago, so I guess I’m due. I’ve been on sand dunes, boats, in rainforests, and underwater with my camera since my last cleaning.

Even at f/11, everything but the big hair isn’t that noticeable. Nonetheless, there is a big giant hair on every photo I’m taking. I think I’m going to invest in a small blower so I can do basic cleaning myself.

I wish I had checked the several days ago so I didn’t have to waste my time.
