North American National Park #14: Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico

There are three sites with national park designations in the United States that are caves: Wind Cave, Mammoth Cave and Carlsbad Caverns. Of the three, Carlsbad is the most majestic by far.

What makes it so special are the numerous named rooms, which are often quite large. The stalactites and stalagmites you can find in the various rooms are stunning. Unlike some other caves, you can bring a tripod into Carlsbad, which is a necessity if you want to take decent photos in the cave.

Located in the far southeast of New Mexico, Carlsbad isn’t easy to get to, but it is well worth the trip.
