The Fushimi Inari Shrine is, in my opinion, the most impressive shrine in all of Kyoto. It is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the spirit Inari, who looks over agriculture and personal fortune. The path up the mountain is lined by orange gates which are sponsored and constantly being built and rebuilt.

The shrine is amazing isn't it? That's where my gravatar was taken. Astounding location and scenery. We took a side trail and ended up getting lost in the forests for a few hours. We found some really old shrines during our wanderings and ended up in some community in the middle of nowhere. When we asked how to get back to Kyoto, they just laughed at us! It was a long walk back to the train station.
