When talking about Canada, most people picture the Canadian Rockies. A long, seemingly never-ending, series of peaks, alpine meadows, snow-capped mountains and glistening lakes – that is what the Rockies are about. And it is no wonder why millions of tourists travel to Canadian Rockies each year as it is undoubtedly beautiful in its own unique way.
The Canadian Rockies represent the Canadian side of the North American Rocky Mountain range. It belongs to the Canadian Cordillera, which is made up of multiple mountain ranges that start from the Canadian Prairies and extending to the Pacific Coast. The peaks that comprise this mountain range vary in height with Mount Robson and Mount Columbia among the most prominent of these peaks. The highest peak is Mount Robson at over 3,900 meters high. Majority of the mountain range is part of various national parks and protected areas that it is considered a World Heritage Site.
Aside from the mountain peaks, the rivers and lakes are among the top attractions for those who travel to Canadian Rockies. You can find hundreds of them scattered all over the mountain range and its surrounding areas. These rivers and lakes therefore provide several types of activities for tourists such as kayaking, boating, fishing, and more.
Meanwhile, there are four national parks that are located within the Canadian Rockies. You can start off at any of these national parks when you want to travel to Canadian Rockies. The four national parks that are located adjacent to each other are Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Kootenay National Park and Yoho National Park. There is another national park belonging to the Canadian Rockies (Waterton Lake National Park) but it is located a bit far away from the above-mentioned four national parks.
The Alpine Club of Canada has been responsible for the maintenance and building of alpine huts throughout various parts of the Rockies. These huts are specially created for the adventurers and mountaineers that travel to Canadian Rockies.
