Photo Essay : The Falkland Islands

In January 2012, I went with G Adventures to the Falkland Islands. It was the first stop on a trip which included South Georgia Island and Antarctica. The Falklands is one of the places you seldom hear about unless it is in a news story about its disputed status between the UK and Argentina (who called it the Islas Malvinas). I found the Falklands to be a wonderful if not isolated, remote and barren collection of islands where penguins vastly outnumber people and tourists seldom visit.

I hope you enjoy viewing the photos as much as I did taking them.

Stunning Photographs! Some are truly fantastic! I love photography and look over the web for finding useful stuff for the same. I came across this site. Looks wonderful. Falkland Island would definitely a better place to visit. Thanks for the share.

Beautiful photography, and what an amazing trip! However, I’d get rid of the pop-up advertisements on your site, as they do not work well on the iPad! Otherwise, I love the site.

  6. Gary, however did you get the shots of penguins from above? I hope you were perched in a secure spot. I REALLY adore the shot of the baby penguin listening to its parent. Immeasurably cute!

  7. Beautiful photos! Love the shots of birds in sweet moments :)

  8. CheezyK says:

I don’t think it’s possible to enjoy viewing the photos anywhere near as much as you did taking them … that’s not to say I’m not loving them, just that being there in person would be immeasurably better!!

  9. I’ve been to the Falklands a number of times due to working on a cruise ship and the place is unique as are its residents. The photos show the highlights, include the rockhoppers. Love them. Thanks.

  10. It’s weird to see such typical British architecture so far away from its homeland! The Falkland Islands really seem interesting.
