Just a quick update from Fiji before I head off to Sydney tomorrow. I have a longer post outlining my thought on Fiji and comparing how things have changed since my last trip here in 2007, but that will probably take a few more days. I also have about 1,000 photos from my time here that I have to process. Fun times….
Here are some general updates about me and the travel blogosphere:
Your truly was recognized as having the #1 travel blog on the internet. This is a huge accomplish that was three years in the making. It made all the times I had to spend alone in foreign countries working on the site worth it. (It was especially nice to see that I’m getting even more traffic than Rick Steves!) I’d like to thank all of you who helped make it happen. It certainly wouldn’t have happened if it was just me and my family hitting refresh all day :)
I’ve started writing a column for the Washington Times Community site. I’ll be posting short photo essays there on a weekly basis. They asked me to do a column for them before I left for Fiji and we just now got thing working.
My co-host of This Week in Travel, Chris Christensen, is organizing a tour to Vietnam in March. If you are interested in visiting Vietnam (and you should be), traveling with Chris and other dedicated travelers would be a great way to see the country.
Nomadic Matt, who I’ve spent the last week with exploring the Yasawa Islands in Fiji is giving away a free 2 week trip to Costa Rica with GAP Adventures.
Excellent travel photographer, Peter Carey, is raising money for a photo journey through Morocco, Tanzania and Nepal. He is looking to raise $10,000 and already has $1,500 committed. It is a no risk donation, in that if he doesn’t raise the full amount, all the money is refunded. Donors will also get free photo prints from the expedition. Check out his site for more details.
If you are in the Sydney area during the next week and would like to meet up, please send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or send me a message on Twitter. Likewise, if you are in Bangkok and would like to meet up when I get there (in a week or two) let me know
