Win a FREE copy of the Mario Grigorov CD “Paris to Cuba”

Paris to Cuba image

My last several contest have been books, and books are great, you can’t really experience the world from reading alone. Sometimes you have to listen. This week’s contest is Paris to Cuba by Mario Grigorov. I’ve personally had several tracks from the CD on my iPod the last week. Here is the description of the album:

From the co-creator of Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart-topper Aria, comes Paris to Cuba. The ten tracks on Paris To Cuba are the embodiment of summertime. Composed and created by Mario Grigorov, the album’s sound conjures up beautiful complexions, mid-afternoon mojitos, linen garments, and vintage Cadillacs. This is music that immediately evokes an aural landscape, a narrative of striking up a wandering romance with a stranger, a “paseo” through Plaza Vieja or a sunset on the Seine. Lilting, sensual brass sections flirt with gentle vocals on “I See”, “Every Little Movement”, and “Snake Eyes”- the three tracks which feature singer Melissa Newman. Blending hints of Pink Martini, Madeleine Peyroux and Buena Vista Social Club, the percussion section laps as a wave on an empty beach. It is easy for the listener to get lost in the guitar solos, mysterious accordion and nostalgic, sweeping strings.

I’ll randomly pick five winners who will get a free copy of the CD or a digital download of the album (because it is the 21st century and CD’s are sooooo 80’s)

All you have to do to win this musical celebration of summer is to leave a comment saying what your plans are for the rest of this summer. If you happen to live in the southern hemisphere, just tell us what you are planning to do next summer.

My wife and I have the summer of weddings. We will be in Wyoming next week for my sisters wedding and then in Boston and Rhode Island in September for 2 more. We are spending the week in between in Provincetown on Cape Cod.

  2. I actually don’t like to travel in the summer other than locally to cooler places in the NW… but come September I’m going to Australia and New Zealand for a few weeks of exploration by myself.

  3. We will spend the rest of the summer exploring more of the Pacific Northwest and doing things on our wish list. We are leaving for our own trip around the world next year and have a list of things we want to do before we leave and maybe never return. We will be doing many more day hikes, visiting the Olympic rain forest, Mt. Saint Helens, Mount Ranier, as well as spending as much time as possible on our deck with a nice bottle of wine planning our next adventure together. Should be a fun rest of the summer.

I LOVE all of Marios work!! I will be in Amsterdam, Belgium and Switzerland with my children this summer. I am a big fan of Marios other albums like Rhymes with Orange.

  8. Is going to Qingdao with friends at end August. Well, beach and beers, as typical summer travel. But will be fun. It is a coastal city in north China, which is known as a very clean garden city, and Qingdao beer!

Once this semester is over, I’m planning on heading up to New York for a week and a half and also explore a bit of Florida that I’ve never seen!

  10. Shannon OD says:

In Amsterdam for a few weeks and then headed to the UK for the rest of the summer. Been on the road for nine months and I get to go home after the UK!

  11. Matt says:

I’m from Tennessee, but I’m planning on spending the three weeks before the fall semester starts just touring the north. Boston, New York, really just anywhere where I can find a couch to crash on, haha.

  12. Liv says:

I’ve spent this summer repatriating! I spent the last 2.5 years living in Japan. I’m regrouping here at home in New York, making like a tourist and seeing all the things I didn’t enjoy while I was here. And come this fall, I’m re-expatriating; moving to Dublin to get my master’s. I’ve got a lot of European travel plotting to do ….

  13. Derek says:

We are going up to Eager, AZ in the White Mountains to get out of the desert heat in 2 weeks for a family reunion. Not sure exactly where we are camping at yet as I am not the organizer, but am hoping for Big Lake since I’ve never been there. This is part of the reason I love living here in AZ; the variety of terrain. Usually we go up to Mount Graham to get out of the heat for a few days on the weekends.

  14. Linda says:

Oh, how I wish it was summer here! Light at 7.30, dark at 5.30, AND I have a cold.

Next year, though, I plan to have THREE summers – start in New Zealand and South America, then catch the Northern summer in Europe (especially the UK and Spain) and then head down to Asia for number 3. That should make up for this cold cold winter.

  15. John P. says:

We are going to Sequoia National Park in California and Zion National Park in Utah.

  16. Victoria says:

In Hong Kong interning at a magazine….not planning any trips, just want to enjoy my time here at home with family and friends before heading back to Toronto for school in September. Eating all the lychees and mangos I can in the meantime…

  17. Kali says:

No exotic trips planned, but definitely Ono Island (AL), DC, St. Louis for a baby shower, Nashville and hopefully, hopefully St. Barts…

    Great blog!

  18. JoAnna says:

  31. Jessica says:

Mostly work, but I’m going to visit Boston with my sister (who’s coming from New York City) at the end of July! I’m in Texas so I’m hoping the weather will be a few degrees cooler, haha.

  32. MousE says:

Unfortunately my summer is being consumed by having to move. It’s been a heck of a hassle finding affordable housing in a city gone mad with greed and Olympic fever. Do I ever want to sell everything and just take off. Don’t tempt me! =) Thanks for the blog, Gary, and good luck with Antarctica!

  33. bruleeblog says:

I already took my summer vacation, so I’m stuck at the office. :(

  34. I return to work on August 2nd (I work in the school system). I enjoy travel, but no plans this summer. I keep my love for travel by cooking foods from different countries, taking photos, and writing on my food blog (all three hobbies of mine. How lucky is that?). My heritage is Greek, so summertime is Greek food!!! Caribbean and Italian close at second place.

  35. My summer will be spent finalizing the shooting script for the movie Killer Green, playing with my daughter and our two dogs in the yard, and caring for our (hopefully) monster-sized pumpkins in the back-yard garden.

  36. Mike Salotti says:

I will be going to Bear Creek Lake State Park in a few weeks to fish and stay in a cabin. Hopefully up to the National Zoo in Washington DC after that.
