Great Smoky Mountains National Park it the most popular national park in the United States in terms of annual visits. More than 9 million people enter the park every year.

In addition to beautiful views and wildlife, there is also a significant cultural component in the park as well. You can see Civil War era homes, churches and graveyards. People, both Native American and Europeans, have been living in the park since their arrival.

You can also see part of the Appalachian Trail in the park and walk along a small part of it.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is relatively easy to visit and is within driving distance from many major cities in North Carolina and Tennessee. It was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
