My Travel Plans for the Rest of 2012

The last week has been very busy for me. Flew to Denver and met with the folks at G Adventures where we did a photo shoot and had meetings. I then went to Keystone to attend this year’s TBEX conference, which was a great experience.

I’m also close to completion of the over 10,000 photos I had to edit after my photography tour. The only sets I have left are from San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.

The first half of 2012 has been very busy for me in terms of travel. Just to recap where I’ve been this year:

  • Ushuaia, Argentina
  • Falkland Islands
  • South Georgia Island
  • Antarctica
  • Caye Caulker, Belize
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Lord Howe Island, Australia
  • Fort Worth, Texas (2x)
  • San Francisco, California (3x)
  • London, England
  • Charleston, South Carolina
  • Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Hong Kong
  • Yosemite/Death Valley/Bryce Canyon/Zion/Grand Canyon National Parks
  • Las Vegas/Phoenix/San Diego/Los Angeles
  • Denver/Keystone, Colorado

For those of you keeping score at home, that is 6 continents in just the first half of 2012!

The second half of the year is looking to be just as exciting (and busy). Here are a few of the places I am tentatively planning to visit the rest of the year. Some of these things might fall through and almost certainly some other trips will pop up.

  1. Wow Gary, such an impressive travel schedule. I could say that I’m jealous, but I should instead use this as inspiration and motivation. Seeing the polar bears in Chruchill is definitely on my to do list. I can’t wait to see your photos!

  2. Please let me know when you are KL Gary… I d love to take you out for lunch and or coffee and ask you a few questions and hear more stories…

  3. Happy to arrange a dinner/fun for you in Seattle; try to come before October, before it gets dark, damp.

  4. Wow, that’s a lot of jumping around. I’m also impressed you you know so many of your destinations for the rest of the year. I generally don’t know where I’ll be next week.

  5. Wow, lots of great destinations. I’ll be headed to Sweden myself in October (and other parts of Scandinavia) and I can’t wait. Excited to see your posts about this country!

  6. Awesome list! I can’t wait to see your polar bear photos after your visit.

How about a NYC or Brooklyn meetup when you are in?

  7. Wow! What a great list. In some ways I am a bit envious. I however spend a while getting to know places. Do you ever want to travel that way? I know sometimes I am looking to pick up the pace.

  8. That’s awesome that you’ve been to Antartica. I worked with an author who went there on a research mission about the supposed World War II base there built by the nazis. I heard the landscape in that place is absolutely incredible.

  9. Part of me wants to tell you to go to Africa so you can hit up 7 continents in 2012…and part of me thinks that that may be the event that causes the end of the world on December 21.

    • 1) I’m also thinking of visiting Africa this year.

      2) The Mayans didn’t have a leap year, so the end of the world already happened :)

  10. What an amazing list! I wish you fun and safe traveling on your trips during the rest of this year! aotearoa

  11. Maybe I’m cynical because I’m Canadian … but what are you going to do in Churchill, Manitoba lol!

inspiring stuff. I’m leaving this weekend for a one month trip and a bit nervous because it’s the longest I’ve ever travelled. Going to circumnavigate the globe (Toronto-Los Angeles-Hawaii-Guam-Philippines-Thailand-Singapore-Australia-Kuala Lumpur-Qatar-Dubai-London-Toronto) . but your travels are inspirational so it keeps me in check

    • Probably to see the polar bears and or the beluga whales. Churchill is very popular for those two things….and that is probably all! I live in Winnipeg, and no one goes that far up north for anything else!

  12. Woah, you are definitely busy!! You’re coming to British Columbia, Canada too!! That is where I live. :D Hopefully you enjoy this beautiful province. :)
