19 Images of Lord Howe Island That Will Blow You Away

Lord Howe Island might just be the most beautiful place on Earth. If not, it is certainly in the running. Home of the world’s southernmost coral reef it is located almost 500 miles off the eastern coast of Australia, Lord Howe is a little visited part of New South Wales. To give you an idea of how special the island is, only 400 visitors are allowed on the island at any one time and there is no mobile phone service anywhere on the island. The islanders have chosen to keep it turned off. It is a place where people introduce themselves as a 3rd or 4th generation islander and everyone knows everyone else.

Getting to Lord Howe is not easy. The only transportation is small propeller plane and the tickets are rather expensive. Nonetheless, it should be on your list of places to visit if you are ever in Australia. Of the few travelers I know who have visited, all have listed Lord Howe as one of their favorite places.

  1. I know someone that was born and raised there. Yet she moved away as she became bored and now lives in Canberra.

  2. I’m quite happy that I met up with you. Being a little visually impaired, I travel the world through your photos. Lord Howe Island looks like a place I could live…Thanks again for so many great places.

  3. The place is like stolen from somebody’s fantasy, a place of pure beauty and delightful views- a place to live your love, holding the hand of your beloved while the wind is playing with your hair. And the pictures are just amazing!

  4. Right at the moment i saw the very first photo, I was absolutely stunned and eager to scroll down and see the rest! WOW!!! The very long white sand beach is captivating, especially on a bird’s eye-view. It’s more than beautiful!

  5. Lord Howe Island has been on my list for quite some time now. I just have to go. It’s such a short flight from Sydney too. Gotta go! Hopefully later this year.

I wouldn’t mind doing some KiteSurfing there either.

    Gorgeous, gorgeous photos!

  6. Beautiful set, Gary! Lord Howe Island is one of the places I want to go most, currently. Now, even more so. It seems to beautiful and so unspoiled. A rare thing these days. Thank you for sharing the island with us.

  7. I like! And have heard many good things about Lord Howe Is. Will try to get there in the next 12 months.

  8. Howe – WOW! After seeing your wonderful photos, I understand why so many folks love this far-away island.

  9. Beautiful photos of a place high on my “next time in Oz”-list. Another gorgeous island is Norfolk Island, also off the coast of Australia (but a little easier to get to), but with a wonderful and quirky history to boot (Britain’s worst penal colony AND home of the descendants of the Bounty mutineers).
