This week brings me to the land of the Long White Cloud: New Zealand! I was invited by Qantas Airlines to participate in The Great Crusade to support the Wallabies in the Rugby World Cup. This weekend I attended the two semi-final games: Wales vs France and New Zealand vs Australia. This Friday we’ll be attending the Australia vs Wales bronze medal game and on Sunday is the big final between the All Blacks and France. (more…)

When this is posted, I should be arriving in New Zealand via Qantas Airlines for the first time in over 4 years. I’ll be spending the next 10 days driving around with Aussies who are there for the Rugby World Cup. Because I never did it last time, I think it is time for another installment of “8 Things You Might Not Have Known…”

1) New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote. Women were granted the right to vote on September 19, 1893 and voted in the first election on November 28, 1893. Universal suggrage did not occur in the UK until 1928 and in the United States until 1920. (more…)

Marine Iguanas in the Galapagos Islands

I’m winding up my stay here in Ecuador. My original plans were pretty aggressive. In the end, other than my trip to the Galapagos Islands, I’ve spent all my time here in Quito. It has given me the opportunity to work, eat great food and explore the city a bit. Also, when you have a room with free wifi at $20/night, it seemed like a good idea.

Wednesday I’m going to have one of those hell travel days I have to suffer through every so often. My flight from Quito leaves at 6am and lands in Los Angeles at 2:45pm with a layover in Houston. My flight to New Zealand then leaves at 11:40pm, which means I have to kill a good part of the day at LAX. Oh well. (more…)
