Emerald Lake, Yukon, Canada

Last weekend I had a great time at the TBEX Travel Blog Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. I was able to meet friends I haven’t seen in ages as well as meet many new people who I’ve only interacted with online. I also had the pleasure of giving the closing keynote speech at the event, which seemed to have been well received by everyone (even though I was told I had a few typos in my powerpoint slides!)

Less than 24 hours later I found myself up in Whitehorse, capitol of the Yukon Territory in Canada as a guest of the Yukon Tourism Board. Yesterday I took a train from Fraser, BC to Skagway, Alaska and today I’ll be flying up to Dawson City, driving a further 400km north to Eagle Plain and crossing the Arctic Circle for the first time in my life!

I skipped doing links last week, so without further ado, here is what I found interested around the internet:

This Week In Travel – Episode 86

This was a live episode recorded at Il Nido Restaurant in Vancouver. We were doing this with a live audience and so we had a bunch of guests over the course of the show coming and going. This was by far our longest show, but it was also the most fun to record.

The last 7 weeks have been crazy. I don’t think I have done as much in so little time in the four years I’ve been on the road traveling. Just go give you a recap of the last, almost 2 months:

  • 14 countries: Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
  • 13 languages: Czech, German, Slovakian, Slovenian, Italian, Croatian, Spanish, Catalonian, Swiss German, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish.
  • 8 currencies: Czech Crowns, Euros, Croatian Kunas, Swiss Francs, Hungarian Florints, Romanian Leis, Bulgarian Levs and Turkish Lirias.
  • I’ve traveled across borders on buses, trains, planes and ships.
  • I walked from Europe to Asia….and back.
