Thailand Redshirt Protests – Day 1

This is just a quick update, because I don’t have time to do a full write up. Yesterday I attended the political protests in Bangkok. I spent several hours walking around the protesters with my camera. Everything was peaceful. Not only was it not an angry mob, it had the atmosphere of a festival more than a political protest. People were bending over backwards to get me to take their picture. The photo of an angry protester shouting just wasn’t in the cards. I’m heading back to take some more photos today, this time I’ll have some batteries for my flash and an extra battery for my camera.

Careful dude. When I was traveling in Mexico 3 or 4 years ago, there was what seemed to be a fairly peaceful protest in Oaxaca City, Mexico. I think it was a teacher’s strike or something. I was in the state but on the coast at the time, but if I’d been in the city… I too would have been roaming around getting images.

Unfortunately, some other poor freelance shooter WAS getting some snaps and ended up getting fatally shot in the face because of it.

Jus’ sayin’… be careful shooting protests. They can turn in an instant.

Hey Gary – I found your post from elsewhere but was interested in seeing your photos (the 1st one on page 2 is a real shocker!!).

I hope it keeps peaceful for you and hope to see more of your photos from today. It’s past noon now and everything seems to be calm enough (busy though) – best of luck and keep safe our there!
