Thanks to my friend Jason, PHP ninja and all around programming jedi, I am now launching the feature I announced back in January.
High definition daily photos!
Almost all of the nearly 800 daily photos I’ve put on the site should now be visible in a 1,000 pixel wide format. This increases the area of the photos from 240,000 (600×400) to 667,000 pixels (1000×667), an increase of almost three fold!
To get an idea of the difference a bigger photo makes, click on the image below to see it in its full glory:
If you have subscribed to the site via RSS, you should see the new images show up in your RSS reader every day.
Let me know what you think of the new change.

Great! your pictures look stunning.
It’s like a dejavu seeing this one photo. I think I already saw one like this before.
These are amazing pictures. How are you able to do the HD? I would love to know… I use a lot of rich images in my business and on my blog. Thanks for sharing your trips with the world!
When viewing images online, it is just a matter of size. The resolution of monitors are set, so to get more detail, you just need a larger photo.
It’s true. The bigger the better! This is the way to fully show the high definition photos of what you’ve captured. However, I would prefer to see them without clicking again… :)
Subscribe to the RSS feed :) There is no way I can put images that big on my front page. It would take forever to load. If you subscribe via Facebook, RSS or Twitter, you’ll get a link directly to the page with the photo.
Haha, you’re such a genius in ways of getting huge number of subscribers! Ok. So I shall subscribe to your feed! :)
The reason I put a smaller image on the front page isn’t marketing genius, its just a matter of space. If I put a 1000 pixel wide image on the front, there wouldn’t be room for anything else. This way people can sample the last week of photos at least.
Definitely “WOW!” It does show up in the reader but for some reason I still prefer to see it on this site!
We have been grappling with the issue of how big to make out pictures for a while, and this was certainly an instructive example of why having big fat juicy photos helps enhance the user experience on a site. Thanks for teh perspective Gary…
that’s great gary, it fulfill the picture
Wow! That is wonderful! What a beautiful picture. It’s a great addition/change to your blog. I can’t wait to see you new photos.
