I went to Dubai last year and stayed there three days. I enjoyed most of the remarkable places of Dubai.
I really like this post and also create back link for my blog.

I think you planned your trip to Dubai too late. I grew up there in the nineties and early 2000's, I remember Dubai as a wonderful place full of culture. At that time the proportion of local Emaratis to ex pats and immigrants was much higher. I think Dubai is starting to lose its appeal for the very reasons you described in your article. Before it was a paradise that although growing fast, few people had heard of. I remember dreading having to tell people where I grew up because it was inevitably followed by the explanation of where and what Dubai was, and no, I did not ride a camel to school. Dubai has been a very westernized community for as long as I can remember, yet it was on the tide of another major turn as I left the city. The construction and drive for tourism has turned Dubai into an ultra high class getaway for the extremely wealthy; the exact opposite of what it once was. But somewhere in the middle, probably the late 90's to about 2005, it was not only a great place to visit, but an even better place to live in.
Unfortunately, now, I share many of the same sentiments about the city as Gary. I wish you could have had the chance to visit Dubai when it was the place I remember.

You have presented a very balanced view of Dubai Gary. This is without a doubt one of the better such articles I've read on the emirate in recent days. Great going!<br>- Diane Trader

I spent two or three days in Dubai a couple fo years ago when flying with Emirates (seemed a good spot to take a short break before flying on). And I formed much the same view having viewed the typical "sights" walking and exploring the Creek, the souks, the older areas, a couple of fancy hotels and the desert. I avoided the skiing and water parks as they seem to Hollywood to me. As you say, it was really easy to visit there and that would bring me back as a flight breaker but the sights and experience won't make me hurry back or arrange a visit solely based on Dubai.
