Halekala Silversword, Maui, Hawaii (by Everything Everywhere)
This is an endangered Silversword plant near the summit of Haleakala volcano on the island of Maui on Hawaii. The Silversword is only found near the summit of Haleakala. When white people first came to Hawaii, they would often dig up a silversword and take it back as a trophy for climbing up to the summit. That plus the grazing of goats threatened the silversword with extinction. When the plant flowers, it creates a stalk about 1 meter high with hundreds of small blooms.
