| The Rice Terraces of Banaue are one of the most impressive things I’ve seen on my trip. For miles around the village of Banaue, the mountains have been carved by local residents to grow rice. They have been carving terraces for over a thousand years and are still making more terraces today. I’m sure this wont be the last photo you see from Banaue as a daily photo. |

Hi,
This reminds me of the Douro region of wines here in Portugal.
I wonder if the portuguese learned this system from this area of the globe.
Now lets see some more of this great blog.
Kind regards,
José

Filipinos lovingly refer to the Banaue Rice Terraces as the Eighth Wonder of the World- one of the few great “structures” not built by slave labor. Thanks for your continued interest in our country =] Safe journeys always! Dili was a close call, wasn’t it?

Gary,
You’ll see very similar agriculture in the Peruvian Andes. They grow corn and potatoes as high as 14,000 feet in terraces just like this. All the work and transportation is done by hand. It’s amazing.
On an unrelated note, how have you been dealing with visas? When you don’t have a set date to arrive in a country, how do you manage the Visa process - or have you not visited a country that requires a visa?

You’ve been to more places in my country than I have. Good job. I should start learning about my country.
