Again, you prove that travel is not just a thing 'tourists' do, but it is something we, the travelers, do to learn from and hopefully do what you are doing, share. Thank you for sharing more of your adventure.

Your comments just made me realise how different things appear as a tourist.

I was expressing my opinion that I was interested in what you said. Hiroshima is close to my heart since I've lived there and have been to the museum and talked to survivors.

DIfferent things affect different people. Your post motivated me to write a comment. As did my comment cause you to comment.

Explanation for the following below.

Pearl Harbor=Hiroshima+Nagasaki?

Pearl Harbor+Hiroshima+Nagasaki=:(

I think that Pearl Harbour and Hiroshima and Nagasaki all had casualties. I don't think any is less sad than the other.

Your posts are interesting and informative. I look forward to reading more.

1) I'm not surprised at a lack of black humor, I'm just pointing it out. Perhaps it is my American up bringing, but you can find Chicago Fire souvenirs, San Fransisco Earthquake t-shirts, and even stuff about hurricane Katrina. You don't see that in Hiroshima.

2) I never said there weren't lingering results, just that you don't see a public displays dwelling on the events which happened. I think this is a positive thing, by the way. You can focus on the future or focus on the past. People stuck in the past seldom are able to move forward.

3) I'm not equating Pearl Harbor with Hiroshima, but historically one did end up leading to the other.

4) There will never be compensation for the survivors of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. If it hasn't happened by now, I just don't see it ever happening. Also, if the Japanese government were to ask that, then that would open up the floodgates for claims of people who suffered from medical experiments at in Manchuria, "comfort women" in Korea, and almost everyone in SE Asia and the Pacific to have lived through WWII.

Did you go inside the museum in the Peace Park?

I found it interesting that you were suprised there were no black-humor souvenirs of the last century in Hiroshima.

Personally I'd rather eat 'deer sh*t' chocolate from Nara than buy a soft-toy atomic baby with no arms. Maybe it's just me.

People in Hiroshima have 'moved on' but there are many who are still physically and mentally suffering the side effects of the bomb. There are also many events held in the Peace Park to protest against atomic bombs and there petitions for compensation from those dropped in Japan.
